In the previous blog post, we introduced you to Lucifer season 5 part 1, and the new cast of characters. In this post, we will explore one of these characters in more depth – Who is Merritt Yohnka? Merritt is an interesting character for a few reasons. First, he’s a Satanist. This may not seem like such a big deal, but it’s pretty rare on TV. Second, he’s transgender. And finally, he’s played by actor Lars Mikkelsen (of Hannibal fame). So what can you expect from Merritt in Lucifer? We’ll leave that up to your imagination! ?
Merritt Yohnka’s History
Merritt Yohnka is an American author and journalist who has written extensively on the politics of religion. He is a contributing editor at Religion News Service, where he covers global Christianity. Yohnka’s first book, Godless: The Religious Case for Humanistic Enlightenment (HarperOne, 2007), was a critical examination of the relationship between religion and humanity.

He has also contributed articles to The New York Times Magazine, Harper’s Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Slate. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Yohnka currently resides in Washington D.C.
What is Lucifer?
The Lucifer season part 1 finale left us with a lot of questions. One of the most pressing: Who is Merritt Yohnka?
Merritt Yohnka played an important role in the Lucifer season finale, but we still don’t know much about her. Here’s what we do know: she’s a high-ranking member of the Department of Wellness and senior vice president at Lux Industries. She was also responsible for Lucifer’s return to Earth and his subsequent imprisonment at LHC.
Yohnka is a powerful woman, and her connections could be key to unlocking the answers to some of Lucifer’s mysteries. In the finale, she seemed to be negotiating with God (played by Tom Ellis), suggesting that she has something valuable on her side. And it looks like she may have been working with Amenadiel (Elijah Wood) all along – according to Maze (Ian McShane), Yohnka had been helping him track down Lucifer since before he escaped from Hell.
Questions abound about who Merritt Yohnka is and what her role in the show may be. But one thing is for sure: she’s an important character and will likely play an even bigger role in Season 2.
Season 5: The Aftermath
In the finale of Lucifer season 4, we see an alternate future in which Amenadiel kills Lucifer. In this timeline, Merritt Yohnka (played by Lesley-Ann Brandt) becomes the new God of Hell. While it’s unclear what Merritt’s motives are for taking over the throne, it seems she may be looking to clean up Hell after Lucifer’s corruption and chaos. So who is Merritt Yohnka?
Merritt Yohnka first appeared on Lucifer in season 1 as a friend and ally of Amenadiel. She was a powerful angel who helped Amenadiel overthrow God and take control of Hell. However, her true motives are still unknown. It’s possible that she only wanted power for herself and was never truly committed to helping Amenadiel rule Hell.
After Lucifer’s season 4 finale, it’s uncertain what will happen to Merritt Yohnka. She could continue to rule Hell alongside Amenadiel or she could be replaced by another character in season 5. Either way, we’ll have to wait until 2019 to find out!
